We are so lucky to have such wonderful community partners that help DHA's kiddos during the holidays. Together, we make sure that no child goes without presents! Below you'll find information on our partners and the programs they put on to make the holidays magical for every child!

has been providing toys to DHA’s children during the holidays for over 10 years!  Every December, MGM volunteers and the Denver Police ride around Westwood, Quigg, and Sun Valley on motorcycles, honking horns and creating holiday spirit.  This year MGM volunteers passed out gifts to more than 1,200 children in these communities.

Kids Giving 365

Kids Giving 365 has partnered with the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) for seven years to provide gifts to DHA children.  This program is unique because Santa’s “Elves” are children.  Santa’s “Elves” adopt DHA children to deliver gifts to.  These “giver” children are actively involved in fund raising and community service all year, in preparation of this event. On December 10, 2016, Santa’s Elves connected 2,317 DHA children with Santa’s Elves children at  Rude Recreation Center in Sun Valley, South Lowell, and Trevista Elementary School in the Quigg neighborhood.  These giving events were nothing short of amazing!   Children experienced giving and volunteering first-hand. They met the child they “adopted” face-to-face, gave them their gifts, and experienced the impact of their actions.

The Denver Dream Center is an organization that does several programs for the Housing Authority. Their "Adopt a Block"  program happens the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, and volunteers perform practical acts of service to DHA residents as well as the larger community such as lawn care, home repair and playing games in the neighborhood with children. This Christmas the Dream Center will wrap donated gifts, where Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher parents could "shop" for one free toy per child, while their children enjoyed cookies and arts and crafts! The Dream Center Team also delivered presents on Christmas day!

Steuben's hosts the best themed party in town to support DHA children during the holidays!   This event has been happening since 2010 and themes have included James Bond, Saturday Night Live, Revenge of the Nerds, and Tiki Time!  Guests are asked to bring toys for DHA children in exchange for a free drink ticket.  Steuben’s creates tasty signature drinks for this event and all drinks are only $5.00!  "Steuben's Goes West" is the theme for the 2017 party!  This event delivers hundreds of toys to support DHA’s children! All proceeds from the event are also donated to purchase additional toys for kids of DHA.

Baskets of Joy is an annual project of The Denver Post, Albertsons/Safeway, and Volunteers of America, to bring holiday fruit baskets to limited income seniors in the Denver area. Thanks to the help of volunteers and valuable community partners, Basket of Joy provided nearly 1,000 nutrious baskets to DHA seniors. Volunteers get the chance to deliver these beautiful baskets to right to the recipients door and see the joy these gifts bring.

The Sam Sandos Christmas Program began in 1978 in the kitchen of Sam and Ethel Sandos, as a means to help out a few families who were down on their luck. A few years later, Sam and his good friend, Joe Lucero, saw a need in the community for families who couldn’t afford a holiday meal. The program has since grown and serves residents of Jefferson, Denver, Adams and Arapahoe counties. The program builds and delivers food baskets complete with a turkey and all of the trimmings for a holiday meal.
