For 20+ years, DHA has offered the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program as a way to support low-income families on their pathway to economic self-sufficiency.
Muriel was a resident of DHA for 26 years until she became a homeowner in 2019!
Muriel joined DHA's FSS and Homeownership Programs and improved her credit, reduced her debt, and increased her income with the ultimate goal of buying a home.
According to Muriel, "Being a homeowner and knowing how to manage my money feels great and gives me a sense of stability, especially after 26 years of living in public housing."
Branda became a proud homeowner in 2018,
thanks to her hard work, determination, and persistence as a member of DHA’s FSS and Homeownership Programs.
With support from FSS Counselors, Branda
obtained her Medical Assistant Certificate, increased her income, increased her credit score, saved money, and reduced debt. After graduating from the FSS Program, Branda
used her cash out savings to help buy a home.
Her son, loves his new home and school! Now, Branda is studying to become an RN at the Community College of Aurora.
Nefertiri joined the FSS and Homeownership Programs in 2013. As a single mother of three children, Nefertiri had a dream to purchase a home for her family. Throughout the duration of the program Nefertiri improved her credit by nearly 100 points, increased her annual income, and reduced derogatory accounts. Nefertiri and her three kids transitioned out of subsidized housing and into their own home in June of 2015!
